Founded in 1989, Restore is a well-established company specialising in brick and stone cleaning, paint removal, repointing, and related restoration services. Based in Southwest London, we are trusted by property owners, contractors, developers, architects and conservation bodies, including English Heritage and many conservation areas. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our ISO 9001 accreditation.
Our services include brick cleaning, paint removal, stone restoration, repointing and decorating, these enhance a property’s appearance by restoring its original character. This not only improves aesthetics but can also significantly increase property value, often far exceeding the cost of the restoration work itself.
On day of works, Restore normally will arrive and unload equipment, and store on site if appropriate. We will then sheet window panes by applying plastic affixed with staples c. 4 per frames, and then apply cloth backed tape around edge (pin holes or staples may be visible afterwards, or paint may lift when tape is removed). Wooden battens will be applied on the outside edge of the brickwork to get a nice clean line, and to affix tarp sheets down sides to keep dirt in. Erect a canopy over the doorway if necessary.
Clean or strip paint to the area.
• On completion it may be necessary to touch up areas by rubbing stubborn stains by hand or with a grinder.
• Scaffold boards, paths, etc will rinsed down. Debris from paint stripping will be brushed up as best as possible, bagged and left for disposal.
• Off we go, even happier if you have left our payment, and left you pleased with the works.
Again there is nothing in the process that will break up the pointing, but if it is already weak or missing this will be made worse or removed (if you can remove it with your little finger it may be removed. It needs to be attended to obviously, this is something we can do (Repointing).
We receive a lot of enquiries, more so from private home owners, wanting to know a price NOW!
Obviously this can be a difficult question, very similar to asking – How long is a piece of string?
It is best to give Restore the address and description of works, and we will normally visit site within 2 days, and will post you a detailed quotation, and email also if you prefer.
No, the basic principle is that we apply solutions that dissolve or break up the unwanted material (dirt or paint). If the surface has already deteriorated under the unwanted material, then when we clean or strip there will be some loose material released.
Health and Safety considerations, and the correct control of H&S aspects of work is now of paramount importance.
At Restore, we strive to uphold our own strict controls, in addition to statutory requirements.
We inspect all works prior to commencement and formulate a plan, and carry this out accordingly.
We will undertake COSHH assessments as necessary, and will provide this documentation on request.
We carry a specialist, brick and stone cleaning specific policy (most competing contractors may only have a builders policy for a few hundred pounds which of course won’t cover any unfortunate occurrence, if they even have insurance)
